Mission

We aim to provide practical, actionable forecasts which actually help you get through your day and week.  Think of PREcip as your weather weapon against your day!

Approach

Weather forecasts and modeling have actually improved quite a bit over the last two decades, but the way that you receive that weather data is often through an icon of the sun or cloud or a short sentence.  It's all just output from a computer generated forecast based on your zip code.  At PREcip, we want to provide a better forecast to you - something more relevant and usable that mimics how a meteorologist thinks about her or his day and weather planning.

We are bringing the forecast that consumers use to the 21st century - matching the explanatory power of 21st century weather models!

Process

PREcip's team monitors the weather short term and long term while publishing a daily message to you first thing in the morning.  The message may include mention of a pick day of the week or a storm a few days out.  Either focused on a bright sunny day or impacts to your commute, we share whatever is the most pertinent weather details and may send an updated message if the situation arises.

PREcip currently publishes a daily email and a daily text. Both news updates aim to:

  1. We de-emphasize the technical detail or generic comments common in most forecasts, which sound fancy but don’t provide you with actionable information. At PREcip we meaningfully state what the weather is going to be, and what you should do about it to get through your day. For example, we’re not going to tell you more than an inch of rain is expected today. We’re going to tell you there will be heavy rain, we’ll tell you the start and stop times, and we’ll recommend you bring waterproof shoes, an umbrella, and that you plan for extra time during your commute. We do the weather thinking for you.

  2. With PREcip it’s not on you to look up the weather. We push the weather and our recommendations to you so you’re not caught off guard.
